The Dose Girls’ First Blogiversary & Giveaway To Our Readers!

One year ago, The Dose Girls were born. Fine, fine, we were actually born *many* years ago, but this is the anniversary of the day we officially entered the blogosphere together and became…The Dose Girls!

We have accomplished many things in the past twelve months, and today we reflect on this last year and everything it has meant to us:

  • Number of blog posts published: 305
  • Number of blog posts written but not published: 59
  • Number of comments left on The Dose of Reality: 18,081
  • Number of times we have called each other to say, “Wow! We have the greatest readers IN THE WORLD!”: 10 MILLION

We talk on the phone A LOT. We talk to organize our blogging plans for the week. We talk about our children. We vent brag about our husbands. And we spend an incredible amount of time talking about how much we love our Dose Peeps and how amazing you are to come day after day to visit us here.

You, our beloved readers, are the very best thing about this blog hands down. Not only are you incredibly loyal, we laugh for endless hours over your comments. You enhance every. single. post. with your wit and humor! You’re the best!!

Dose Peeps+ comments=LAUGH OUT LOUD FUNNY.

Today, in honor of our first year, we decided to share with you all some of our favorite posts from the early days when we had about four readers (and two of them were us). If you haven’t read them yet, check them out!

For the Love Of God…Use the Backdoor

This is the very first post we ever wrote together. We sat at Lisa’s kitchen table, where we have sat together a millionty times since, because our creative juices flow best there. And also, because it is clean. And uncluttered. Unlike the rest of our houses.

You really want the name of our decorator, don’t you?

Head to Head: The Living Legends–Barry Manilow vs. Neil Diamond

Every now and then The Dose Girls disagree (*gasp*, we know!). Sometimes, it is on something small like whether or not the Rubik’s Cube was better than a Magic 8 ball. Occasionally, however, it is actually something pretty big that affects our friendship (and probably all of America if we are being honest). Those are the times when we really count on our Dose Peeps to step up and set us straight on who is right and who is wrong.

There is only one right answer here, so don’t let us down!

10 Things We Learned in 2012

We pride ourselves on being life-long learners. If we don’t know how to do something, we look at it like a challenge and get to work. You could probably say we are our generation’s version of Aristotle or Benjamin Franklin, but with less Greek or near-miss electrocutions.

Amazing we even have time to blog at all, right?

Now for the REALLY good part…

In order to properly celebrate the momentous occasion of our blogiversary, we are giving y’all stuff! Yes! It’s a GIVEAWAY! Woot!

We each read a book this summer that we absolutely loved, and when we love something, we like to share it with you guys! Lisa read Chris Bohjalian’s book The Light in the Ruins and Ashley read Jen Lancaster’s book The Tao of Martha. To top it off, we are throwing in a $50 Amazon Gift Card to use on whatever your heart desires! (Well, whatever it desires for $50 or less)

Blogiversary Graphic 2 Big

We will announce the winner this Thursday, September 12th, so you only have a few days to make sure you are entered to win!

  1. Happy Blogoversary….or whatever the heck you call it. You ladies are amazing and funny and just awesome! THANK YOU for all the laughs and (I’m sure) many, many more to come!! Rock on!

  2. Congratulations, ladies! Wow, 305 posts over 18,000 comments?! Nicely done! I can’t believe it’s been a year, I feel like I have been enjoying your blog forever. I look forward to many more to come 🙂

  3. I swear I thought you ladies were doing this longer, but looks like we both started last September. Huge congrats. Happy Blogiversary today and awesome giveaway. Thank you both for that, too!!! 🙂

    • Technically speaking the blog has been in existence for longer, but we don’t count the time before Lisa came on board…because, it was WAY less fun back then! 😉

  4. Happy Blogoversary! So much LOVE for both of you! Can’t wait to read some of your earlier posts, especially the debate over the showman of our time! Thanks for hosting such an awesome giveaway. The Tao of Martha has been on my reading list for a while, so fingers crossed!

    • We can’t wait to see what you think of our Barry/Neil debate Nicole! 😉 The Tao of Martha was GREAT…if you win, you will LOVE it! 🙂

    • HA HA HA!! We will loom away…there is only one RGMB (Ryan Gosling Mini Bust) in the world, but I have a feeling that Lisa will plan to make next year’s birthday gift special, too! 😉

  5. Shut. Up. You girls have only been blogging ONE YEAR??? Way to make me feel inadequate on a Monday morning.
CONGRATS, my friends!!! If I were there I’d give you each an Ari kiss.
Now I’m off to read the Manilow/Diamond post…and just so you know, it better turn out to be Manilow.

  6. Happy Blogiversary!!! I am only 2 days behind you for mine (and no I haven’t planned a post yet…hanging head in shame)! Well you guys know how much blog love I have for you – you’re my #1 pick for laugh out loud funny – so I will just say enjoy your day and I think RG probably would love a day and night on the town to celebrate with you!

  7. Congrats!!!! I am happy and proud to say that I have been here since day one. I still remember the announcement and the back door post was and still is one of my very favorite posts from you guys. I still laughed out loud. On a serious note, you guys are two of my very favorite people in the world. Not just the blogosphere. I know we are close to actually sitting by a pool and sharing a drink and some laughs. We have to make that happen. Love the giveaway and totally praying I win. 🙂

    • AWWW AnnMarie, you are THE BEST!! We so appreciate your support both on and off the blog! We are DEFINITELY sitting poolside soon…it must happen!! 🙂

  8. Congratulations and Happy 1st Blogiversary Lisa and Ashley! You gals have done amazing things in the last year! I am so impressed and I wish you even more success!
I’m so glad that I’ve been able to connect with you ladies. You two are so supportive and funny (cyber hug x’s 2)!!

    • LOL Kita…most of them are not even actual posts yet…just drafts of ideas! It would be quite a disappointment we promise! 😉

  9. I would love, love, love this.
So many kindle book I want to read (including The Tao of Martha) and my SAHM budget won’t allow.
Congrats on your first birthday ladies!

  10. Happy Blogiversary! Your commitment is definitely paying off! Your blog is very well written, funny and inspiring. I wish you both continued blogging success!

  11. You know I’m one of your biggest fans. You guys are like Lucy and Ethel funny, you know. Not to mention your incredibly big hearts and overall amazingness. Happy first anniversary and many, many more! xxxooo

    • Awww, Ilene, being compared to Lucy and Ethel is probably one of the BEST compliments ever…and now we are off to stomp some grapes and try our hand at working in a chocolate factory! 😉 We adore you!

  12. Happy Anniversary! The great thing about being “new” to the blogosphere is that I get to go back and read some of my fav bloggers past posts….it’s like not watching Downton Abbey ever and now having all 3 seasons to watch at once! So. Awesome. It’s why I still haven’t read 2 of Jane Austen’s novels….because once I do, there are no more!
Keep ’em coming Dose Girls and thanks for YOUR support, too, over at My Special Kind of Crazy!

    • LOL Christie…totally agree with you…we love finding awesome blogs because we can read the “back catalog” and still know there is more coming our way!! 🙂

    • We will do our best Jennifer! Here is hoping that after 10 years we can be like Oprah and give everyone a car! 😉

  13. Two things have shocked me today, and it’s only 10:00 am. First, is that I’m shocked you’ve only been doing this for a year. You’re so awesome, it’s like five years of blogging! Ten! Fifty!
Second, is that I wasn’t already following you on Pinterest. I guess I thought I was because you’re constantly being repinned so I just see your familiar awesomeness and assume I’m following you.

    • So glad you are following us now…yay! 🙂 You are so sweet Tamara and always make us feel so good with your comments! Thank you! 🙂

    • We will definitely do our best Christine…as long as you awesome readers keep leaving us hysterical comments, we will try to bring the funny! 😉

  14. Is that really the number of comments or did you just make it up? And why so many written but not published? Are they spare emergency backups?
You guys are doing great, you write good columns that I enjoy reading.

    • Hahahaha. We did not make up a single figure, Bill! We went to the dashboard (the inner workings of the blog) and pulled the figures right from there.
Our unpublished articles are mostly just ideas we had that we tried to jot down so we wouldn’t forget that we some day hope to go back and write. A few, though, are things we finished and then decided were too awful, dull, or stupid to publish. We never delete them, hoping to one day rework them into something decent—but we’ve only actually done that once. You never know, though!

    • And we could not be happier that we’ve found each other, Kim!! (even though we’d surely fall over dead if we tried to do your 43s with you each day) Here’s for all the years to come! 😀

  15. Sending happy 1st anniversary wishes to two of my very favorite blog pals! I am so happy for your well deserved success. Honestly, I thought you had been “in the game” for years. With your mad skills and huge following you could rule the world! BWAHAHAHA!
BTW today is the first anniversary of my darling daughter and her fabulous husband. Celebrations all around!

    • You are too sweet, Mo!! If we ruled the world we would really try to use our power for good and not for evil…but we aren’t making any promises. 😀

Most importantly… congratulations to your wonderful daughter and son-in-law!! What a beautiful milestone for them and your family. We are so happy for them! 🙂

    • You are too, too sweet, Andrea! Now that we’re in our second year, I hope we don’t throw tantrums and go through the terrible twos!

  16. Happy Blogiversary! What an amazing thing for you all! Hope there are many more to come! I don’t know what I’d do without this blog (and you wonderful ladies) to lift my spirits! You all are the best!

    • I just read this comment out loud to Lisa and she said, “Why would I want to get that song out of my head?” Duh. In fact, she is playing right now. I know this because we are still on the phone. Thanks Melissa! 🙂

  17. HAPPY BLOGIVERSARY!!!! The bubbly is out and confetti is flying!!! Ok no it’s not.. i’m at work but in my head I’m partying with two of my favorites!!!! LOL… I am so thrilled I briefly ran into you at BBCC and discovered your blog! You ladies rock!! CONGRATS ~Leah~

    • Thank you, Joi! We’ve felt so honored to be mentioned a bit through Kim’s challenge. It’s just so sweet and has totally made our month! 🙂

  18. Congratulations on your blogiversary! I love your blog and your partnership, and thanks for making me feel better about my own disorganized house. Everyone is always asking me how I do it all (work full-time, parent three children, write a blog, etc.), and I tell them that they haven’t seen my house!

    • Hahahahaha. If we can make one person feel better about their mess by seeing our hideous houses, our work here is done! 😀

  19. Happy Blogiversary! I can’t believe this blog is only a year old. I’m such a fan and look forward to you guys making me smile everyday. Congratulations on such success in your first year and I wish you well for many years to come (especially since that means more enjoyable reading for me and YOUR blogiversary is all about ME! Ha!).

    • Hahaha! You are too funny, Heather, and thank you so much for your sweet comment! You are the best! (We are just hoping we don’t go through a sophomore slump in our second year! Fingers crossed!!) 😀

  20. Congrats on one full year! Most new bloggers quit within the first three months, so technically, you’re about four years old in blog years. Thanks for all your support over at yeah write. Here’s to another great year.

    • You know, we never, EVER thought of it like that! We’re actually 4 in blog years! Bwahaha. That is AWESOME, Erica. Thanks so much!

  21. I love sharing your Pintrest Nightmares with my husband. Although I MAY get him some meggins for Christmas…

Thanks for all your hard work!

    • This is the most awesome thing I’ve read!! You must promise us you’ll capture a photo of the meggings magic if you go for it! 😀 Here’s to more pinteresting nightmares in all of our futures!! (and meggings in your husband’s stocking!)

    • It just seems that way because we are old and grizzled and jaded. Every time our site is down, we get another grey hair and a wrinkle. Thank goodness for Loreal!

    • Hahahaha. We love you, Darcy! (and we love the word wackadoo and plan to use it at least once a day in conversation from here on out)

  22. Memories…. Light the corners of my mind… misty water colored memories…. of the way you were!!!! 🙂

And I can trump THAT and say I followed Ashley’s solo act before the duet slammed into the blogosphere!!! I know Lisa proofread all of her posts, so really Lisa was part of the duo in many ways already.

Love you girls so damn much. Here’s to another year of GREAT and AMAZING SUCCESS!!!!

    • Oh, sweet Chris. The fact that you know us so well makes us giggle and smile…and then you sang Barbra to us!! J’adore! We were totally meant to be friends! WE LOVE YOU, GIRL!!! <3

  23. Oh, and good luck with replying to all your FREAKING COMMENTS!!! HA! Always scrolling…. scrolling…. scrolling.

I will make sure to come back and see my replies, thank you very much!!!

(Still laughing, hope you are too!! And if your not, well grab more Starbucks and chocolate and get to work on these comments!!! It’s the price of fame ladies…) (Now you’re laughing, right?) (I heart you!)

    • Bwahahahahahahaha. I’m laughing so hard I can hardly breathe! I think I’m going to have to order a Vente Starbucks tomorrow!!
I hope our replies didn’t let you down. Now I’m nervous!! (and if you didn’t like the replies, then Ashley wrote them. If you smiled then Lisa wrote them) ;D

  24. I love Chris Bohjalian! Have you read Midwives? And I feel certain I’ve read something by Jen Lancaster, too, but I’m too laze to Google a list of her books right now and figure out which one…

    • We both LOVED Midwives Sarah! Did you read Bitter Is the New Black by chance? That is probably her most famous one, but all of her books are great! 🙂

  25. I know this is a lot of work for you guys, but it is appreciated. It seems like you’ve been doing this forever, so I was surprised it’s been “only” a year.
Fun rereading the early columns! Maybe you can do weaving and parkour next year. Or the year after. Or not.

    • Just a year as a duo…so when all the fun started! 😉 Obviously, I started as a solo artist, but didn’t really achieve any real success until I got a partner! 🙂

  26. Oh my babies are all grown up! Happy 1 year anniversary! Keep it up girls. You definitely have the most loyal fans because I am one of them and I only surround myself with WINNERS! I love Barry Manilow and was so offended when my friend from business school said, “I can’t believe you listen to Barely Man Enough.” I almost cried, it was such a mean comment!

    • Lisa just cried for you Catherine. She would like to call your friend personally and talk to them. 😉 You are so sweet and we love coming to your blog! 🙂

  27. Happy Blogiversary! I don’t remember how I found you guys, but I’m glad I did! You help my life seem more “normal”. 🙂

    • Hahahaha. We can’t remember anything ever, Debbie. The three of us should stick together! (We have given up trying for normal. We’ll settle for “Hey, you guys are not as weird as I though” nowadays! 😀 )

    • Hahahahaha. Our scrolling finger has been getting a workout, Britton! We are so fortunate to have such great readers and commenters!!

  28. Only one year!? I feel like you have been making the blogosphere a better place for so much longer, you guys have such a wonderful way. Congrats and keep it coming!

  29. Happy blogiversary gals! You’re two of the most supportive bloggers out there, and I always look forward to seeing your posts. Let’s hope you have several more years to go!

    • We are always excited when we see you have a new post, too, Leslie! Here’s to many more years blogging for all of us! 🙂

    • Thanks, Mary!! We’re glad we’re not pioneers. We feel like we’re roughing it if we don’t have room service. It’s better this way. 😀

    • We definitely need you to visit Charlotte, Raquel. You’ve seen our houses. You KNOW how much organizational help we need!! We could be your biggest challenge to date! 😀

  30. Happy Blogiversary! I still can’t believe you guys have been at this only a year, you two are such super stars!! Thank you for making me laugh and always putting a smile on my face! Love you both! xo

  31. I’ve been a fan for almost a year – I didn’t realize you had just started then! I always enjoy your posts, especially the Pinterest fails. 😀

  32. Congrats girls on your 1 year mark! Love you girls! I can’t believe that you have the time to actually comment back on all your comments. This still amazes me and you have some dedicated readers! Hats off to you and looking forward to many many more hundreds of posts and thousands of laughs. 🙂

  33. Happy blogiversary! I can’t believe it’s only been a year because you write so well, make me laugh, and have sooo many commentors. You need to write a book on your secretes my friends. I’d spend the $50 on that. I think I’ve read most of these posts. Wow!

    • Oh Carli,
Thank you so much! You are too kind! We appreciate this comment so much…not sure that we could pull off $50 for a book of our advice! 😉

  34. Happy Belated Blogiversary! (belated is becoming a theme, no?) Anyway, in May when Michelle and I got to meet you guys I said “you guys all started your blogs in September” and she was like “no way” and I was like “yeah” and she was like “can’t be” and I was like “um, yeah, I mean I think so, I mean wait, that doesn’t make any sense, right? They have to have been blogging for longer than that.” (and yes, Michelle and I talk like all “Valley” when it’s just us) And so, I wish I had stuck to my guns and bet her something good. Hard to believe it’s only been a year – that’s a whole year of laugh out loud funny posts and a whole year of smiling goofily at my computer while I’m reading your stuff. Congrats and here’s to many many more!

    • How come I don’t even remember this? I mean, definitely I thought you all had been blogging way longer than me…look at how together you are! Was this after a glass of wine (or two?)

  35. Oh.My.God!
I missed your bloggiversary! I’m so sorry.
Congratulations, girls! I have been following you girls from like day one and I have loved it all 😀 You both rock!
