Would You Rather: Listen To The Wiggles Or Kidz Bop?

I can say with total relief that the days of kids music are behind me. We listen to the radio now and jam along to all the latest pop hits! But I totally remember the days of yore and how they involved songs about dinosaurs and eventually progressed to the “Disneyfied” versions of radio songs.

Emma was obsessed with The Wiggles. It was all Wiggles, all the time around my house. We even took a road trip with our playgroup to see The Wiggles all the way in another state. Thank God, Anthony (the blue Wiggle for those you playing along at home) is so easy on the eyes, right?! At least it gave the mothers in the audience something to focus on!

Shortly after the Wiggles phase, we discovered Kidz Bop. And by discovered, I mean the CD was a prize in some fast food meal. Naturally, we had to play it. Over and over and over again until my ears started to bleed. If I want to hear Let’s Get It Started I would like to hear Fergie sing it, thankyouverymuch. No such luck with the old Kidz Bop.

It got me thinking about which one I would rather listen to if I absolutely had to choose. Like my radio and iPod are broken. And I can’t just choose silence. I am in my car driving, and I have to decide whether to listen to The Wiggles or Kidz Bop.

The good news about The Wiggles is that all of their songs are original and when you are on your 33rd time hearing Wags the Dog it actually becomes kind of catchy. Or so you try to convince yourself.

As for Kidz Bop, the plus side is that they are all songs you know. The downside is that they are being sung by children. And not in a cute, adorable Wheels on the Bus kind of way. But more in a now mommy has a massive migraine kind of way.

However, those are the choices for you today.

The Wiggles?

Kidz Bop?

One or the other.

Not both. You’re welcome for that, by the way.

Now, here is the deal y’all.

I noticed a disturbing trend in the Would You Rather game last week, and it made me turn to candy to help me eat my feelings. Specifically, a pound bag of M&Ms, and we all know that no good can come from that. A lot of you tried the whole “wow, I just can’t decide” or “I am really somewhere in the middle on this one”. No, no, no. You must choose. We get it. They are hard. Sometimes almost impossible. But still. Do it for me. And the ability of my jeans to still button.

Would you rather have to listen to The Wiggles or Kidz Bop?

Would You Rather: Listen To The Wiggles Or Kidz Bop? — 121 Comments

  1. I somehow skipped the “KidzBop” around here but got PLENTY of the Wiggles! I too, took the boys to see them on a sweltering August day a few summers ago. You actually can talk yourself into thinking “these songs are not that bad” since you’re already half crazed from taking care of your kids all day! I choose WIGGLES!
P.S. I caught them on tv the other day and Anthony is the only original member of the cast!? There’s even a (gasp!) girl Wiggle! What is this world coming to? πŸ™‚

    • Can you believe he is the ONLY one left?! It is quite shocking…but I had no IDEA that they had a girl Wiggle now. WHAT?! Dorothy the Dinosaur is supposed to be the only girl in their lives! πŸ˜‰

  2. The Wiggles, hands down. The Blue one is easy on the eyes. I don’t mind annoying lyrics if the music is actually good from a technical point of view. They’re no Springsteen, but the music is a bit clever sometimes.

I would die a thousand deaths before Kidz Bop comes on in my house.

    • Cracking up! Imagine how good The Wiggles would feel to know they were even in the same sentence as Springsteen! πŸ˜‰

  3. Kidzbop for sure! Thankfully we didn’t listen to it that much and my kids never got into the wiggles. We did go through a fresh beat band phase and we listened to choo choo soul quite a bit too…

  4. My niece was of The Wiggles generation and swear I am just so glad my kids have no interest in them whatsoever! That said as much as I hated them, I hate Kidz Bop more, so I guess I would have to say The Wiggles here, too unfortunately if that was my choices, lol!! πŸ™‚

    • I hear you Janine…I would pick The Wiggles, too, mostly because Kidz Bop makes me want to gouge out my eyes! πŸ˜‰

    • LOL Michelle! I don’t remember earplugs being one of the choices…as I reach for the 2 pound bag of Skittles! πŸ˜‰

  5. We have a strict “no kids music in the car” rule, so my kids mostly listen to regular, normal people, non-ear-bleeding music. We did, however, have a several month period o’ Wiggles when my oldest was a toddler. It wasn’t terrible. Now we stumble onto some Kidz Bop periodically, which I find preferable to the Wiggles. We have to skip over the Chipmunks songs, obviously.

  6. Wiggles all the way. More Anthony, please! I haven’t seen the new cast, but we have DVDs from the good ‘ol days. In a few of them, Anthony sported some very disturbing sideburns, but he was still easy on the eyes. We usually listen to the radio in the car, but I may need to rethink that since my 4 y/o has picked up the lyrics to some not so kid-friendly pop songs.Should we petition for a children’s collection from Adam Levine? The mamas can just sit and drool while he belts out some original kiddie pop.

    • OH.MY.GOD. Do you think that should be our next movement Nicole? Right after the MILF club? Please sweet Adam Levine, DO IT FOR THE MOMS!! πŸ˜‰

  7. We listen to Kidz Bop. August until about 3 weeks ago, we listened to KB 24 nonstop. Now it’s 25. And the worst part is the what does the fox say is on the newest one.

  8. Oh my. I have a headache at the thought of listening to either one of these. But since we have to choose, I’ll go with the Wiggles. My kids were never into the Wiggles, so it’ll all be new to me. Kidz Bop makes my ears bleed and my head hurt. And hate children. That’s just not good.

    • You have a whole exciting list ahead of you then Jenn! Think “Dorothy the Dinosaur”, “Wake Up Jeff”, etc.! πŸ˜‰

  9. The Wiggles for sure. If you’re going to listen to kids’ music, listen to kids’ music. Not “Wrecking Ball” or “Blurred Lines” or whatever completely gross inappropriate shit they make those kids sing on Kidz Bop and that leaves you feeling vaguely squicky and uncomfortable. Sorry for the vitriol, I just hate Kidz Bop. Did I mention I hate Kidz Bop? Because I do. Hate. Kidz Bop.

  10. Kidz Bop. Not because I want to, but because you forced me to. I can’t take either one and really, since I’m driving the dang car, I get to pick the music. More often than not, my kids are singing along to Kenny Chesney.

  11. I think this is one of the times I’m supposed to be glad I have no kids yet LOL
Pretty sure I would pick the Wiggles, because I would hate songs I like being ruined. They aren’t any worse than the elephant show was, are they? My little brother and sister were obsessed with them.

  12. Wiggles. At least listening to them I can think of Anthony in his tight blue shirt. Never lostened to Kidz Bop because I am the DJ in my car. I decide long ago that my car was a kid free music zone. If I had to listen to George Jones and Porter Wagner growing up my kids can stomach a little Zac Brown!!

  13. Don’t see the inablility to answer as a bad thing, instead see it as a good thing that you guys are able to come up with unsolvable questions. Like this one. I’ll say wiggles but I’ve never heard either. Which is a nice thought for the rest of my day, thanks.

  14. OHMYGOSH I am just laughing so hard! Not at the choices, cause well- they SUCK. (LOL) But at this…”made me turn to candy to help me eat my feelings. Specifically, a pound bag of M&Ms,”

You see, I catch every single ONE of your hilarious witty sometimes underthebreath freaking AWESOME comments. And that one, made me snort my coffee through my nose- then go back and read it over and over again- because THOSE are the gems that shine that DOSE-ABILITY.

*I kinda wanna say I’m in between on this choice… just to see what you will eat next*

BUT I love you too much to make you eat more feelings- SO… I will sadly say the freaking wiggles. Cause I can’t stand so many goofball versions of pop songs.

    • BWAH HA HA HA Chris…considering that I am now down to the special dark chocolate from the Halloween buckets, I appreciate you giving me an honest answer on this one! πŸ˜‰

  15. Yikes. That’s a tough one. Do you think it’s possible for my son to remain ignorant about the entire genre of kids’ music? Forever? (He’s two now.) But if I had to choose, based on my limited musical knowledge about either, I would pick KidzBop. I cannot deal with the Wiggles.

    • Do I think it is possible? Yes. Likely? Sadly, no. I am sorry for being the bearer of this bad news on your Monday Jessica! πŸ˜‰

  16. This is a terrible choice. Terrible, I tell you!!

But I will be strong, and make a real decision.

I’m going with the Wiggles. Because Kidz Bop is just wrong. And I don’t support people who misspell words in an effort to be cute or hip.

  17. Maybe it’s just because Eve is so young and we can still pretty much listen to whatever we want (she hasn’t complained yet), but I’d have to go with Kids Bop. I actually don’t mind kids’ music (there’s a reason I worked in early childhood education!) but I might be singing a different tune (har bar) in about 4 years.

    • LOL Bev! You definitely might…or who knows, maybe whatever the equivalent is when Eve is older will be catchy enough for you! πŸ˜‰

  18. Luckily, we’ve avoided Kids Bop so I’ll chose the Wiggles. I actually kindof like their song “Rock-a-bye Bear.” I know. I just lost all respect for myself, too. Sorry – did that make you search for the M&Ms? Also M&Ms are good for us. Just saying.

    • LOL Kristi! Cracking up…that was always one of my favorites, too! πŸ˜‰ Now, we can go hide in the corner together and eat candy!

  19. I have never specifically listed to KidzBop because it gave me an insta-migraine, so it is definitely out. The Wiggles were very loved by my boys when they were younger, so I can totally handle them, probably because I got used to tuning them out or laughing at my kids doing the jigs or singing along. πŸ™‚ Besides, I have always liked when adults are willing to be silly to make kids smile, especially when it’s men. It takes a humbling that is none to common, so I find it oddly endearing. Anyway, bring on the Wiggles! KidzBop, in the words of Donald Trump, YOU’RE FIRED!

    • I know exactly what you mean Julie! My hubby used to joke around that he was going to start a Wiggles cover band for dads…I always thought it was so cute! πŸ™‚

    • Just noticed my typo. That should say “listened” not “listed”. You can see how much the thought of listening to non-stop KidzBop traumatized me…Totally messed with my spelling mojo! πŸ˜‰

  20. Since I have at least heard of the Wiggles and never Kidz Bop, I suppose I would choose Wiggles. We’re still in kiddie song mode here, but I don’t know if they’re anyone famous. Mostly just the standard nursery songs πŸ™‚

  21. Yeah see here is where I age myself because the Wiggles did not come out until my youngest was just about too old for them. So I had the joy of Barney.. I know right hold you jealousy really. But as the lesser of 2 evils I would say Wiggles. Simply because some of the songs Kidzbop does I think is too mature for MY ears let alone my kids ears so WHY are children singing them??

  22. haha…I do feel I often choose one. It’s hard, but I do it for you.
In this case, I choose KidzBop. Not sure why. I felt like I was choosing between an onion and a piece of garbage. but I did it. I like familiarity.

    • You do a good job of choosing Tamara, and I appreciate it! πŸ™‚ Cracking up at your answer to this one! So funny! πŸ™‚

  23. Hmmm… I’m ridiculously out of the loop when it comes to kid music. I have no idea who either one of these groups are. I’ve never heard of them. Since I HAVE to choose, I’m going to go with The Wiggles simply because the name makes me laugh.

  24. Kidz Bop any day for me!!! Thankfully I spent very little time enduring The Wiggles but that “yummy, yummy fruit salad” song is still permanently engrained in my brain!!!

  25. I realized the other day that Kidz Bop is on CD NUMBER 25. And although they’re revised for kids, they still aren’t appropriate songs for their target audience. My son has to listen to whatever I want. We listen to toddler tunes on Pandora occasionally, but in the car, it’s all me. He likes what I listen to though… Beatles, Ellie Goulding, Eminem (yes, I let my child listen to Eminem), The Civil Wars, Mumford and Sons, Bassnectar.

  26. Hands down, Kidz Bop. I have the unfortunate distinction of hearing Kidz Bop a lot as a dance studio mom, they use it a lot in the littler kids classes and all music at the studio is L.O.U.D. At least they’re real songs unlike the Wiggles with their “Fruit Salad, Yummy Yummy” insanity! πŸ™‚

    • Oh yes, I have often been subjected to the Kidz Bop at the dance studio, too…I know exactly what you mean! πŸ˜‰

      • The alternative is they play the original version and all the older girls YELL really loud whenever there’s a word that needs bleeped out. It took me at least a year to stop jumping like I was being attacked when they did that! LOL

  27. When The Wiggles Fruit Salad song comes on, I fall into a deep trance and will complete any task anyone asks of me. It must be some long-repressed brainwashing tool used by some cult I didn’t realize I had belonged to in my youth — because literally that song renders me helpless! “Fruit Salad,Yummy Yummy — Fruit Salad,Yummy Yummy — Fruit Salad,Yummy Yummy — Yummy Yummy — Yummy Yummy — Fruit Salad!”

  28. Natalie makes me listen to both. She has BOTH on her Leappad. She makes me dance to BOTH. Sometimes I want to cry. Kidz Bop is somewhat less annoying because they aren’t singing cutesy songs. Then again, it is funny how they go, “Hey…hey lady!” when singing Gangnam Style because heaven forbid they say SEXY.

  29. Kidz Bop please. Or maybe I’m just uneducated. When Lucas was little he was addicted to Kidz Bop and we had everyone through 2011 when he became 12 and too cool for that. But I could listen to it just fine. It helped that he had so many and I could skip over the ones I really hated.

    • It definitely helps when you can skip over some Carli! No one needs to hear the Kidz Bop version of the Macarena a million times! πŸ˜‰

  30. This is where I am ridiculously thankful that my kids are young enough to have TV controlled by the DVR and music controlled by iTunes pretty much all the time. T doesn’t even know what Kidz Bop or The Wiggles are (insert maniacal laugh). The most requested music goes back and forth between Tequila, Jimmy Mack and Swan Lake. I guess we just like variety. BUT that means that I am pretty much going to have to make my choice based only on the examples you’ve posted here…and purely on that, I have to turn the Wiggles down. Now how quickly do you think I’d regret choosing Kidz Bop?

  31. My daughter is almost 7 and thankfully we’ve gone through both the Wiggles AND KidzBop…although she still enjoy the Wiggles Christmas special. If I had to choose, I’d go with the Wiggles for sure

    • The Wiggles Christmas special is really cute! I like the one where they show all the babies at the end! πŸ™‚

  32. Kidz Bop for sure! I already listen to them a lot. I don’t like the Wiggles one little bit. Of course, my kids have all been hooked on them so there must be something grand from them. It’s a wholesome show, but not one I really enjoy listening to anymore than I like Barney.

    • They have like a magical mist that they emit when they sing Crystal…that is the only explanation, right?! πŸ˜‰

  33. I maybe the only one who doesn’t know who kidz bop is lmao! But The Wiggles used to be really huge at my house. We even went to see them in a concert once, fun. Even I like their songs – although after playing them for a million times I had changed my mind – but it’s fun and catchy and my boy just adores them.

  34. I know nothing about the wiggles but kidzbop is my favorite! We totally played the kidz bop pandora station for my 2 years olds party (which was much better than the hardcore rap station I played for my eldest sons 1st birthday—–rookie mistake)

  36. Ummm really, this is the best we’ve got huh? πŸ˜€ LOL! Let’s just say I’m glad my kids grew up in Barney era! πŸ™‚ I’d rather listen to a big fat purple dinosaur than annoying humans any day. I mean at least the fake dinosaur has an excuse(he’s fake), lol! I have no feelings for either, BUT I know I must follow the rules…so I’ll decide. I don’t know about you, but there’s just something a little creepy about grown men wiggling all around to entertain kids, so I’ll have to go with the Kidz Bop…seeing as if I can relate to AND I know A LOT about annoying kids! Haha! πŸ™‚ Have a good one ladies!!

  37. I totally choose Kidz Bop. We had a few of the CD’s and trust me it is better than listening to Barney. The Wiggles might be just one notch above Barney. My daughter was at the tail end of the Wiggles, but she loved Barney. I remember being up at 2 am watching it with her and about lost my mind.

  38. Wanna hear something sad? And it’s also the honest to God truth. I have a two year old and a seven year old- my toddler LOVES the Wiggles. Obsessed. Her big sis? Kidz Bop. No joke- we have them both simultaneously in our house. I laughed out loud when I saw this. I’m gonna have to go with Kidz Bop.

  39. This one is easy for me: The Wiggles. My youngest is four so we still watch them all time. And my oldest loved them too. I am pretty sure at this point I could be one of their backup singers, if not a Wiggly Dancer. (Just kidding, I could so NOT be a Wiggly Dancer.)
