Stressed Is Desserts Spelled Backwards…Or Something Like That

Sometimes you add something up and kind of wish you hadn’t.

The other day I realized that the last full week Emma and Abby were both in school at the same time was the week of December 13th.

The next full week that both my children will be in school (barring any sort of illness…quick everyone cross all your crossables!) starts on January 27th.

That is a lot of weeks without everyone going to school all five days y’all. I am just saying.

Mommy is what you call a stark, raving psychopath who is considering taking up day drinking  little stressed out these days.

I tend to eat when I am stressed. Mostly desserts. Because hello, duh.

Did you know that stressed is desserts spelled backwards? And here you think you can’t learn anything on the internet. Off to start on the baker’s semi-sweet chocolate I just found in the back of the pantry!

  1. Hang in there woman!! We just had yet another storm up here that delayed school AGAIN. If it makes you feel any better, I’m counting down the days to when the boys will be in school EVERYDAY which isn’t until September. That’s 9 months! You could have a baby in 9 months!!! UGH! Now I need dark chocolate peanut butter cups… 🙂

  2. Yup, same and seriously between the snow and holidays we too haven’t had a full week of school in ages. The girls are going today, because mommy actually needs to get some work done in peace and quiet!

  3. Oh the irony! MIne are 8 and 12 so in school all day. I hate to say this, but it’s really not so much better than when I was juggling preschool or a kindergarten bus. It’s just different. So enjoy it because it all flies away too soon. I swapped out my chocolate for rainbow carrots. Sick, I know.

  4. I totally get you! It’s been a long time since Lucas has gone to school a full week. Well before the holidays. I don’t think he’s going to graduate this year. Just because they never seem to have school!

  5. I feel your pain. I hate it when I look forward to school starting again so I can get some peace and then realize only some of them are going back. Right now my youngest two are in high school so they are on the same schedule. My oldest is student teaching at that school, so she is on the same schedule plus a little extra time. My second daughter is a nanny, so she is gone all school days and some school holidays. But my middle daughter isn’t currently enrolled in college and works a part time job mostly in the evenings. She is here all the time! (Luckily, she’s taking of the nanny job at the end of March when my second daughter leaves for her mission.)

I had several years of everyone leaving on school days. Six hours of peace and quiet and the house to myself. I have not given those up willingly and do not do well without them.

My drug of choice is sleep. So you enjoy your semi-sweets and I’ll take a nap. One way or another, we’ll make it through another day. Ugh.

  6. I have single-handedly eaten two pans of Ghirardelli Double Chocolate brownies and about a dozen Nestle Tollhouse Chocolate Chip cookies. Why, you ask? Leo is out of town, second semester started for Nico and he needs help with Geometry, Belle and Tommy are constant complainers and Gia is turning 4 on Saturday! I feel your pain and now it makes complete sense why I have eaten nothing but desserts. 🙂

  7. I understand. I love when my kids are in school. I miss them but it gives me time to BREATHE.

I eat a lot of desserts. I love them. I always have Little Debbie snacks in the cupboard.

  8. I totally understand your pain. Add in 2 other kids who are not mine because their parents work and you have the makings for a verifiable fashion show involving hug me jackets with matching fashionable belt. With the forecasted weather my kids will not be returning to school this week and next week is not looking promising with more snow on its way in..

  9. Hang in there! Somehow we have yet to have a snow day and only one sickness. Luckily I work from home and I have a great daycare that will take the kids if school is closed (unless it’s a holiday, of course) and if they aren’t too sick. Otherwise I’d be eating chips all the time (since I’m not into desserts)!

  10. “Stressed is desserts spelled backwards” has been my mantra for a long long time – oftentimes I support this mantra by eating desserts before the main course! Yes – it is that therapeutic!
And isn’t chocolate known for its antioxidant properties? and antioxidants keep illness at bay right? 😉

  11. And I thought I was the only one who resorted to baking supplies (pre-cookies as I like to call them) to satisfy a screaming craving for sweets. Everything in moderation but if this is a “would you rather”, I’d rather have dessert than be stressed.

  12. And “whine” sounds just like “wine.” The more the kids whine that they are bored or the foster dog whines that she’s alone, the more I wine. So I’m toasting you and your desserts! And here’s to hoping the stress is over soon!

  13. There is nothing like the “magical window of health” when everyone is well and where they should be. I well remember those days. My particular favourite was finally hitting a reprieve by Valentine’s Day. Everyone was at school. I go to pick up my son from preschool who bounces out with a hive clumpy face and a swollen bottome lip. Lovely allergic reaction to huge amounts of red dye consumed over the past hour and a half. Red cinnamon hearts, red licorice, red jujubes, red jelly beans … Perfect.

  14. After a long weekend, followed by 2 snow days home, I get a call from Noggin’s day care saying the heat isn’t working properly and that we may need to keep kids home tomorrow. Noooooooo! Send some stressed…I mean desserts….my way!

  15. My legs and fingers are crossed! Norovirus raged through Scarlet’s school two weeks ago. She was spared because she doesn’t go on the days in which it raged its reignly reign.
And don’t get me started on the weather. I’ll just go pack for Disney and be quiet now.

  16. Between half days and snow days, today was the first day I had to pack lunches in over a week. I hate packing lunches, but I was a happy camper doing it today!

  17. Such a great point to bring up. I personally am suffering from the same stressed/dessert issue right now. I’m doing a lot of stress eating which is NOT good for me at all!!

May you get through this final days without pulling out your hair. 🙂

  18. The internet won today when the Dose Girls pointed out that stressed is desserts spelled backwards!! LOL I didn’t know that until now…and I’m sure that you have unlocked the secret to combat stress. I’ve considered day drinking a time or two. Hang in there and take it one hour at a time!

  19. I hear you! We ended up with a CrAzY school schedule this week due to teacher workdays, holidays, snow days, and make up days. They were out Monday (MLK Day), went Tuesday but got out 2 hours early b/c of weather, out Wednesday for snow day, Thursday was supposed to be a workday but ended up being make up day for Wednesday, and now they are out on Friday!!! My head is spinning and I need some of that chocolate!

  20. Nothing wrong with a dessert here and there!!! Or every day! This week has been a stressed out one for me too…the high school has midterms and the kids only have to go for about 2 hours a day to take their test. Basically I have been driving back and forth all week and taking kids here and there and I am not getting anything done. Oh plus, they had weather delays too. I’m ready for next week already!

  21. It’s not just luck that stressed and desserts forward and backward both make you a little leery. Try my writing exercise today at Your Writers Coach. See if it helps relieve some stress. Have a blessed day.

  22. Five weeks? That’s far too long without 5 days at school! Then again, between the holiday, the snowstorm, and my own illness I was only at work one day this week. Here’s hoping everyone’s well next week!

  23. I’m still hanging out with the fact that dessert is stressed spelled backwards. It makes sense in the grand scheme of things because yeah, stressed=chocolate which means dessert.

  24. I always feel so much better knowing I am not the only one turning to food in times of crisis! Thanks y’all! 🙂

  25. best placement of a clip EVER.
Honestly, this post makes me quake as I think about summer that is looming… LOOMING. How are we going to keep it together? Thankfully, you always make me laugh, xo
