Would You Rather: Be Veronica Mars Or Rory Gilmore?

Can you tell that I spent most of my spring break staycation watching Netflix and Amazon Prime? From what I could tell the children were playing happily while mommy mainlained every season of Veronica Mars and Gilmore Girls like it was my job. If loving these two shows is wrong, then I don’t want to be right.

I started off our week of togetherness by escaping to the movies with a fellow VM (that is short for Veronica Mars, for everyone playing along at home) addict, where we spent two blissful hours reliving all the things we loved about the show.

I came home from seeing the movie and immediately bought it off of Amazon Prime so I could watch it again. Right now, Robert is shaking his head at his desk finally figuring out where all our money goes. Yeah right. He doesn’t even read the blog (which is coming in really handy right about now during this true confessions moment).

Seriously, though, y’all. Veronica Mars was just the best character ever. If you are a fan of the show, you know that she can deliver a line like nobody else.

Plus, she had the greatest TV dad ever. The way that they bantered was just the best.

And she got to be loved by Logan.

Need I say more?

She is the fantasy that we all have in our minds of how we wish we had been in high school. Or how we would do it if we had another shot at it.

So, I was totally decidedly, 100% in the “I want to be like Veronica” camp when I started watching Gilmore Girlsย again. And then the strangest thing happened. I remembered all the awesomeness of Rory Gilmore. And found myself waffling over which teen I would prefer.

After all, Rory got to live in Stars Hollow, which is the place we all wish we lived. She ate breakfast daily at Luke’s Diner and had the best mom on the planet earth.

She got a chance to be loved by multiple boys, but my personal favorite was Logan. I know, right? Both Veronica and Rory fell in love with a boy named Logan. Clearly, that is a sign of something amazing.

In fact, in my super, secret TV fantasy world where there are no such things as networks, these two shows would collide in reality and Lorelai Gilmore and Keith Mars would fall madly in love and then Veronica and Rory would be sisters. There is your next Kickstarter campaign, by the way. You’re welcome Rob Thomas.

So, what say you Dose Peeps? If this were a Buzzfeed quiz (Fine. I took a lot of those over spring break, too, okay?!), would you get Veronica Mars or Rory Gilmore as the TV character you would most like to be?

Would You Rather: Be Veronica Mars Or Rory Gilmore? — 107 Comments

  1. Gilmore Girls is my favorite tv show of all time. So I have to pick Rory Gilmore.

But. I have to confess something here. I’ve never seen Veronica Mars. So it isn’t exactly fair to choose. What if Veronica is my secret tv soul mate? Clearly I need to up my show watching game and spend next weekend with Veronica.

    • Oh my goodness, start watching Veronica Mars right this minute Tracie! If you loved GG, you will love VM! Seriously! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • OMG me too! Me too! Love the GG, never seen VM – if ONLY I weren’t in school right now!!! Damn aspirations for a new career! I promise, I will start watching VM the MINUTE I graduate! In December. ๐Ÿ™‚
Or, quite possibly in September and the twins FINALLY go to preschool 3 days per week and I will have time for studying AND for TV. ah, the bliss it will be!

  2. Since I’ve never heard of vm until this minute, I’ll go with the Gilmore girl. I think I watched a few epsodes with a hunky boy in them ๐Ÿ™‚ and his IRL name was Milo!

  3. I hate that you’re making me choose between the two of them. I really do. But I know the rules of would you rather so I guess I’ll have to. I’m going to pick Rory Gilmore. Her mom was awesome, Luke was an amazing father figure, SH is the perfect town, and she had a series of great boyfriends. AND she loved to read!

    • Stars Hollow is honestly my dream place to live. And this was a really hard one, so I get that it is hard to choose!

  4. I ADORE, LOVE, and have the biggest girl CRUSH on both Lorelai and Rory from Gilmore Girls. When I was on maternity leave with both girls, I would watch Gilmore Girls reruns every day while I nursed them. I’ve seen every episode many, many times. So, this is an easy pick for me. Awhile back I heard rumors about a Gilmore Girls movie. Hollywood, what are you waiting for?!!

P.S. Welcome back, ladies! We missed you!

    • Total girl crushes on both of them, too! I am telling you, though, if you have not watched VM you are missing out on your next girl crush! And we missed you guys, too! ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. So, Logan from GG is now on The Good Wife, which I just started watching the other day. Still as cute as ever. And Jess was in an episode of Sabrina the Teenage Witch, which my daughter pointed out the other day. That was kind of a buzzkill, because he played a total dork.

I’ve never seen VM, but I do love Kristen Bell, primarily because of the clip from Ellen about her and the sloth.

  6. This is hard one indeed and not sure I would be able to pick to be quite honest. I loved both hess shows and both girls had pretty amazing teenage lives. If I could go back and have either as a teen, I think I totally would have enjoyed being a teen more, but hey I guess we can’t all have it as good as either of these girls ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. You are so right Janine! Teenagedom would have been way better to have been either of these people! ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. Since we’re confessing and all, I have one. I’ve never seen VM. I love me some Kristen Bell, though, so I need to do some more research before making my choice. I have to say, though, dating Logan Huntzberger is pretty much tops in my book, so Veronica Mars will have to be pretty incredible.

Speaking of The Good Wife, DID YOU WATCH IT LAST NIGHT?

    • I really think you would be a total Veronica Mars fan Amy. I feel that about you. Because she is awesome in every way. That being said, Logan Huntzberger=dreamy! ๐Ÿ™‚
And YES to your last question!!

  9. Can you believe that I didn’t actually watch Veronica Mars? I really need to binge watch it, I think.

I always love, love, loved Rory, though.

  10. Brace yourselves…I have never seen either show. Not even one episode of either show. If I start watching I’ll come back to make a choice – that okay? Ashley I think I got an update on every one of your quizzes though so I was taking them like it was my job too. I felt a little like a stalker but it was fun. Glad you guys are back!

    • LOL Stephanie! So glad that my quiz taking is so public…no shame there at all, right?! ๐Ÿ˜‰ You should watch both of these shows and report back! ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. Clearly, I should not be here today, because I have never seen either show either. However most of the time when you are talking about tv unless it was from way back I have no clue anyhow, so please forgive me! Cool moms are a good thing though, when you’re in high school. Is Rory’s mom from Melrose Place? I did watch that show, way back when.

    • No Melrose Place for Lauren Graham, I don’t think. I honestly did not watch all of that show, though, so I could have missed something! It is our life’s goal to turn you into a TV person Michelle! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  12. I choose Veronica. She’s uber cool and smart. Plus her Logan. Sigh. I’m going to just buy the movie on Amazon because the movie’s not playing in any theaters near me and then I can watch it over and over. And how amaze-balls is it that Kristen Bell is Anna in Frozen? She should have sung on VM for pete’s sake!

    • Go ahead and buy it. You will not be sorry. I am not saying I have already watched it a millionity times, but I might have. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  13. Um, I honestly have to say that I have no clue what you’re talking about. I do, however, recognize the “mom” from Parenthood and I love her dearly. Can I plead ignorance on this one? I hope you haven’t lost all respect for me ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Poor, poor Allie. We haven’t lost respect for you at all. We just feel sad and want to come and snuggle up with you for hours of TV binge watching! ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • SPOILER ALERT! ๐Ÿ˜‰ And you should totally tweet Chris Lowell…I am thinking he could use some Piz fans! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • But neither is not a choice! ๐Ÿ˜‰ So, I guess your homework is to watch both and report back with an answer! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  14. I haven’t seen either one. But, did you change your font and replies format? How come? I think I liked the old one better, but I’m old and resistant to new and different things.

    • We did John. We switched to a different theme. However, we are in full agreement with you on the commenting system and are working to restore order! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  15. I’m sorry, I can honestly say I’ve seen neither show. But, no rotten tomatoes yet. I think I’d like to be Rory from Gilmore Girls because I loved the character of her mother. Now, who wouldn’t want that mom? Followed you from SITS. Have a blessed day.

    • Thankfully, that is just what we are here for Kim! Let us know if you would like some one-on-one guidance or just a general guide of what to watch! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  16. So totally Veronica. I love, love, love Rory, Lorelai, and Stars Hollow (and Logan Huntzberger!!) a whole bunch also, Rory just isn’t quite different enough. While I was not a Yale student and my mom would not allow me to mainline coffee before high school in the mornings, Rory’s life of studying, student government, and volunteer work just wasn’t quite different enough from my own. Veronica, though… she got to solve crimes, exact revenge, and do it all with Logan Echolls approximately two steps behind? Yes, please!! Plus, she delivers a one liner like nobody’s business. (And Kristen Bell may be one of the best people on Earth, and I cannot stop loving her/wanting her to be my best friend.)

    • I want her to be my BFF, too Lindsey! I know exactly what you mean. And you are right…Veronica had the more exciting life for sure! Ah, to be her. ๐Ÿ™‚

  17. I am the neighbor who lives behind the Diner in Gilmore Girls. Down from Sally Struthers and keeps having to bring back her cats every night because they keep digging up my flower beds. Seriously, I watched the series so many times when I was pregnant or breastfeeding I am a bit confused by what is reality and what isn’t. The perfect blend would be to be Rory, singing with the guy who used to be in the early seasons and roam the town square singing songs. I could do a duet with him from Frozen. This was fun. Thanks.

    • BWAH HA HA HA! I LOVE this comment. I cannot begin to tell you how many times I have confused TV and reality. It is ridiculous, honestly! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  18. So here’s where I admit I have never seen either show. So I guess you could say I’m not qualified to answer the question. I’ll go with Veronica Mars since I like the name better. Will that work?

  19. I’ve seen every episode of Gilmore Girls ever. I’ve never seen Veronica Mars, but I bet I would like it.
I’m going to say Veronica Mars, even though I have very little basis on this. It’s just that Rory..well I already live a bit like Rory. I have a cool mom, I live in New England and I don’t have to see Kirk every day, I’ve dated some cute boys, I love to read, and I do eat pie for breakfast.

That said, being Veronica seems more bad-a**. LIke..more brave. More real.

Also? How could your husband miss this? Even my husband reads your blog!

    • LOL! Tell your hubby thank you for us! Our hubbies live The Dose of Reality, which is probably why they don’t rush to read all the posts! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Good choice on picking Veronica…just to be different and challenge yourself! ๐Ÿ™‚

  20. As a teenager, Rory is the tv character is most relate to, but Veronica is the one I wish I was as cool as! But I’d much rather grow up in Stars Hollow and sometimes have to put up with Emily than live in the rather more dangerous Neptune!

  21. So I absolutely adore both of these shows, but I think it is really easy to pick Rory. Sure, being Veronica would be kind of cool, but then again my best friend would be dead and my whole life would be a mess all the time. Rory, while having minor breakdowns, has a pretty easy-going life.

  22. I LOVE Veronica Mars, but that girl tends to get herself in some sticky situations – plus I don’t think she eats as much as Rory, so in going have to go with her!

  23. I absolutely LOVE Gilmore Girls, so since you obviously have awesome taste in tv shows, I thought I’d check out Veronica Mars on Netflix (I’ve never seen it either), but I can’t find it. I’m super bummed about that. :/

    • I am SO SORRY Shannon. I realized after I read your comment that I actually watched it on Amazon Prime. Try it there! ๐Ÿ™‚

  24. Welcome back! I’m going to go w/ Veronica Mars even though I missed the boat on the show. She seems more like Nancy Drew, and that was who I wanted to be growing up. Rory I already relate to too much in the good-girl-who-loves-to-read way. This was tough though because she did have the rich grandparents who bankroll her life. Hmmm. Still going w/ VM I think.

    • VM did not have the bankrolling grandparents, but she was definitely more of a badass. So, you made a perfect choice! ๐Ÿ™‚

  25. I’m at a serious disadvantage here, because I’ve never watched either of these shows. I know nothing about the characters or the plot lines, and only have the vaguest name recognition for the shows. BUT, I would love to use that ‘instinctively fear me’ line…so I guess it’s gonna be Veronica!

  26. Logan??? Really? I mean, I’m glad he grew up over the seasons he was in, but he was still a ‘rich kid’… I liked Dean best – sweetest guy ever, but I agreed he wasn’t right for Rory. Jess was her best match, definitely – he had all the brains to keep up with her, and he was more interested in her happiness than his own success. Them’s my two cents.

    • You are honestly right Samantha…Jess probably was her best match overall, but I was still a sucker for Logan! I can’t help it! ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • Of course not! But that doesn’t mean we won’t show up at your house to watch them with you! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  27. The hardest choice ever, because VM and GG are the best shows ever written ! add in Friday Night Lights to round out the top three….I am shocked to read some people have never watched VM and others never heard of GG…hmm do I watch too much TV? I own the complete seasons of all 3 shows on DVD…pathetic I know…but if forced to choose, VM wins..a little more exciting plus she lives in California…Stars Hollow is lovely but no sun, surf… and Rory’s best match Jess hands down…Dean was the worst…I could go on and on about these shows..but I won’t…you’re welcome.

    • Go on and on Karen! I don’t mind! I could go on and on, too! ๐Ÿ™‚ And I totally agree with you about adding FNL to the list. Is there anything better than a really great TV show?! I think not!

  28. Dare I admit this? Oh what the hell. It’s just you and me here right? I. Have. Never. Watched. V. M. Never. Am huge fan of all things GG though so am going to have to put my oar in for Rory. Can’t linger – gotta go watch VM. For research purposes. Of course.

    • Since I am so late with this reply you are probably knee deep in season 2 of VM by now, so I won’t keep you! Obviously, you will need to report back when you are finished. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  29. I’m sad – this is the first Would You Rather that I cannot participate in. I’ve never watched either of those shows. But I loved Frozen and Kristin Bell was in Frozen so I pick Veronica Mars. Whew – I feel happier now.

    • I am really glad you rallied with an answer Dana! I feel happier, too. I would have been so sad if you had sat this one out!

  30. I never did look at Gilmore Girls (nothing against it; I just never ended up doing it), but I have friends who were diehard fans. But I did look at Veronica Mars and would love to go see the movie, so, Veronica Mars it is. She just was so smart and I loved the father-daughter bond.

  31. Oh my gosh. This post made me so happy! My phone says, ‘oi with the poodles already,’ when I get a text, and I just paused episode 7 of Veronica Mars, season two because I have been marathoning it ever since I saw the movie last weekend. Um, I work full time and go to grad school, so do not ask how I had time to watch 28 forty-minute episodes in a week! PS. I love your idea and Mr. Thomas should definitely get on that!

    • Veronica Mars would totally support your need to blow off studying to watch the show. Well, okay, she probably wouldn’t, but you know Logan would! ๐Ÿ˜‰ And I am LOVING that you phone says that when you get a text! I cannot tell you how close I came to using that GIF for the post! ๐Ÿ™‚

  32. Confession: I literally have NO clue what you are talking about. I have NO. CLUE. Who these people are or what these shows and movies are.

    I am officially a loser.

But I had a lot of fun watching those videos with the words! There’s that.

    • Oh Chris, this makes me so sad for you! Can I come over with some ice cream and we can watch both shows together? You would LOVE them I know! ๐Ÿ™‚

  33. OK. You wrote this over two weeks ago. So why am I commenting now? I obviously put myself on a blog hiatus, one I desperately needed, in my ongoing quest to not be a crazed obsessive blogger with no time management skills. So I stopped reading for awhile, but I saw this in my inbox right before my trip, and it nearly gave me an existential crisis. Please, someday, can we spend like a solid week watching every single episode of these- my TWO FAVORITE shows EVER! We are TV soulmates. OK, now I do sound crazy. As much as I feel like I am choosing between my children, I know these posts are dead serious. So. Veronica Mars. (Exhales.) xoxo

    • First of all, Stephanie, the answer to your question is YES!! Let’s do that for sure! With lots and lots fun snacks…Lorelai would insist on it! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Secondly, I am sorry I made you choose. It was probably mean of me. But I am glad you played by the rules. And don’t worry, Rory will get over it…someday. With lots of therapy! ๐Ÿ˜‰
