You Don’t Have To Try So Hard

The Dose Girls have just returned from two glorious weeks of vacation.Β We unplugged and took a break from everything. It was blissful.

When we returned we had exactly 4,374 emails in our inbox. As we got down to work whittling them down to a manageable 812 items, one subject line caught our eye:

Click this link!

That doesn’t sound fishy at all, right?

Surely we were just one click away from being bombarded with ways to purchase low cost Viagra from overseas or being promised a handsome reward for wiring money to a Danish prince to get him out of jail.

DO WE LOOK STUPID?

As it turns out, yes, because we totally clicked. Luckily we were not immediately RickRolled because it was legit, and we saw the BEST. THING. EVER.

We won’t lie. We both teared up immediately… and then called our daughters over to see it.

We are not exaggerating to say that we think every woman and girl should immediately stop whatever they are doing and watch the video below. It’s just that good.

The words and images are perfect and beautiful. It sends exactly the message most of us need to hear no matter what our ages.

Trust us. Have we ever steered you wrong before? (Wait…Pinterest Nightmares don’t count!)

You really are perfect just as you are. You don’t have to change a single thing. Don’t let anyone tell you differently, girl!

See we told you!! *sniff*

(But the next thing we clicked told us we needed to fill out some personal information for a credit card we don’t have…so BEWARE! All clicks don’t pay off with an awesome Colbie Caillat video.)

    • We had a blast! Now we’re back and raring to go (after we cart the kids around to all of their various camps/practices/events, etc.
We cried seeing this, too. It hits home.

  1. You ladies have really done it this time! WOW!!!!! I’m downloading that song immediately and sharing that video with everyone I know. I was never a huge fan of Colbie but NOW I am. Wow. So powerful. Thank you for sharing!!!

    • We’ve always been Colbie Caillat neutral at best, but this sent us over the edge to fandom for sure. We have taken to playing the song all the time in the car now.

    • Aw! Thanks, Janine! You know we love you, too! (And it looks like you have been doing fabulous things this summer with the NYC birthday extravaganza!) MWAH! We missed *YOU*!

  2. Yikes, that’s a lot of emails!! That is a great message. Maybe I should show it to the girls before we get ready to go out for our upcoming girl’s weekend. A couple of them take forever putting on their makeup while the rest of us sit around waiting!!

    • YES! It’s something that many of us need to hear. At first I really wanted Lucy to watch it…and then I realized that I was tearing up and needed the message, too. It’s just so powerful.

    • Thanks, Susie!
YES! Why is self acceptance so hard for us women?! We need to work on that for our girls coming up!

  3. You know, its really going to be a problem if I keep crying at work. although yesterday it was from laughing and last week it was from hormones or something but STILL. I love this and im going to send it to everybody i know.

    • I just tell everyone I have allergies after watching something like that. It explains the sniffling, too, and you’re golden. This video just spoke to us and we had to share it! (And we were also glad we didn’t get a computer virus after clicking.)

    • Super awesome, right?! We probably shouldn’t have clicked, but we only did so with one finger while our eyes were squinty just in case something untoward popped up to assault our eyes. πŸ˜€

  4. That video…so good. Glad you’re back and that you had a nice break. Sometimes it’s great to unplug for a little while. In other news, have you kept up with ari on Instagram? I mean, Hubba Hubba.

    • It is so great to unplug from time to time…but NO!! I have missed a LOT of Arie Instagram goodness. I am off to look RIGHT. THIS. MINUTE!! Squee!!

    • Aw! We missed your birthday! Happy, happy birthday!! Hope your getaway was FANTASTIC!! I loved vacay…and it was nice getting back…and I am ready to go again, too! πŸ˜€

  5. I’m glad you guys are back! Isn’t this song and video amazing?! I love it! I am also in love with Meghan Trainor’s All About The Bass! Such positive messages for girls and women!

    • Oh, I don’t know that one. I’ll have to look it up right now!! We can’t get enough positive messages out to our girls (and all of us, really!)

    • We’re slowly working our way through them all, Herchel! This time next summer, we should have them all cleared out!

  6. Hope you gals had a great time! I have seen that video, and it has a powerful message. I hope that it catches on more than it already has. Would be an awesome mantra for women (and even men) everywhere! :)

  7. Sweet! I think guys don’t care about makeup and hairdos nearly as much as girls and women think they do. I think this sends a great message.

    • You are SO RIGHT! Why don’t we women catch on to that?! We get all wrapped up in what the advertisers tell us is beauty, but most guys don’t care or notice that stuff at all. Great point!

    • THE MAN IS TRYING TO HOLD YOU DOWN, KRIS!! πŸ˜€
Don’t forget to check back. You will love this video. I PROMISE!

(We are so happy to be back! We missed you, too!! :) )

  8. Welcome back girls! Glad you enjoyed some unplugged time. I came across this song when we were looking for music for my daughter’s ice skating program. It definitely gave me pause.

    • Thanks, Marcia! We loved vacation, but we’re so glad to be back!

This is one of those songs that makes you stop and really listen to the lyrics. It’s such a great message!

    • Isn’t that video and song just the best!
I can’t help but click a link, Kita. The curiosity just gets me! (I get RickRolled a lot)

  9. I’m glad that vacation was relaxing and that y’all unplugged!!!
Love this song and the message in it – pretty sure this should play on repeat for so many of us and our kids!!!

    • YES!! I think most people I know would benefit from this message…even males! (Boys might not mess with makeup, but they need to understand they they are wonderful just as they are, too!)

  10. Glad you guys had a fun vacation! And holy crap, you guys get a lot of emails!

That scene where the woman pulls off her wig… WHOA. So good. Good thing you clicked on that email :)

    • I tend to click on almost everything. I’m easy like that. You just never know what you might miss!! I’m a Russian con artist’s dream target, I guess. It drives my husband batty because he’s the one that has to debug my computer.

    • Thanks, Amber! It was great to be away, but it’s good to be home, too (except for the laundry, of course)!

  11. Welcome back! Hopefully you ladies had a wonderful vacation. And this video? It’s beautiful. I just wish that my stupid 11 year old self would have believed it. This definitely goes on the save list for when my girls are older. Thanks for the share!

    • I know! It’s exactly the message my middle school self needed to hear! Heck, I still need to hear it now from time to time! :)

  12. SQUEEEEE!!!! YOU’RE BACK!!!!!!!!! Oh, how I MISSED YOU GIRLS!!!!

    That video was absolutely breathtaking…

Oh, how I am so glad you clicked on it!

I could watch it over and over again…

Perfect in every way. I wish every single girl/teen/woman would see it….

    And BELIEVE it.

    • And believe it! THAT IS EXACTLY RIGHT! When Lucy watched it she did volunteer that she thought all the women and girls looked better without all that makeup…so maybe if we get the message across early we stand a chance of them soaking it in! :)

We’re so happy to be back. We missed you, too! MWAH!

    • Isn’t summer just the best?! (except when it’s way too hot…or when the kids argue…or when they are whining that they are bored…) πŸ˜€

  13. I am so glad I clicked! That was the first time I heard the song and saw the video! I had goosebumps! I’d like to sing this to my little girl everyday until she grows up. :)

    • I felt exactly the same way! It made me tear up! The minute it was over, I hit replay to hear it all over again!

    • I could not agree with you more, Julie! Boys and men need to hear the message that they are perfect just as they are, too! :)

  14. Wow! I’m gripped by it! I’m a day late but glad I’m here. And glad you’re back. You were missed, which is clear by the nearly 5,000 emails!

    • That’s the beauty of the blog! There is no such thing as late! πŸ˜€ We’re so glad to be back, too! Most of our mails were spam. Those spammers just love us. (and want us to have low cost Viagra)
